The Johnny Artis Band is well known in the Mid Atlantic region for their fun loving brand of R&B and Rock & Roll. Johnny Artis was born and raised in Caroline County, Virginia. It was here he was first introduced to the sounds of gospel music that rang strong in his family. At the age of 10, he moved to his present home of Alexandria, VA. Johnny worked as a chef who received rave reviews and who excelled in the restaurant business until the age of 28. It was after the death of his mother that he decided to lay down his apron and devote himself to his (and his mother's) first love, performing. He formed a band known as Johnny Tenspot and Loose Change, and it was here that Johnny honed the skills that would serve him as a performer. Over the years, Johnny Tenspot and Loose Change evolved into The Johnny Artis Band, and in the process created a name and reputation for good music and a great show. Johnny has overcome many obstacles in his life and it seems to have given him the ability to take a song and fill it with emotion, putting it in the audience's heart and making them feel it from head to toe.

With the upcoming release of his new CD "Live Versatility" coming on the heels of his successful release "3 Down Now", and more projects waiting in the wings, Johnny's talents seem to have no limits. Ukelilli is a singer-songwriter with a comedy/folk/pop sensibility, hailing from the D.C. suburb of Chevy Chase (no relation). Now living in Los Angeles, Ukelilli has been building a passionate cult following thanks to her adorable persona and quirky repertoire of songs. At a Ukelilli show you're likely to hear everything from a punk ukulele anthem, to an ode to the films of Jean-Claude Van Damme, to a twisted loved song called "I Love You So Much (I'd Prefer It If You Were Not Dead)."

Ukelilli has recorded 7 albums, 4 of which are currently available for sale through iTunes, CDBaby, and at stores all over LA, including the famed Ameoba Music. Since 2006, she has sold more than 6,000 tracks online. Her music video, "Vote for Obama," was a YouTube viral hit in the last election. My initial concept for the band was, but is not limited to, taking American standards, like stuff the Rat Pack would perform and interpret them using more avant garde aproaches. Such as the electric music of Miles Davis in the late 60's and 70's like "Bitch's Brew", "Big Fun" and "Live at the Filmore". Its driving funk rythems and energy seem as fresh today as they were controversial in their time. Secondly, I was exposed to the "Electric Mud" album by Muddy Waters, which teamed him with some of Chicago 's psychedelic musicians, key to which was Bob Cosey on electric guitar, who wound up playing with Miles Davis on the "Agartha" and "Pangea" albums. More connections. This album used some psychedelic fuzz bass and Soprano sax in lieu of the traditional blues harmonica. This showed me that you could take Muddy's traditional blues, really mess it up and keep the original fire at its core. Thirdly, was rediscovering Memphis Soul. On a recent trip to Memphis , I bought the Stax Box set and began to really pay attention, studying Isaac Hayes' string arrangements, use of fuzz lead guitar over wah-wah rhytem guitar. I discovered William Bell, the very under-rated soul crooner, later Albert King blues/soul recordings and a whole lot more. It was a great inspiration to check out the place where so much funky music was born. Finally, thanks to my wife and many travels to Brazil , I have been keenly interested in Brazilian music from bossa nova, samba and Brazilian pop and funk to its rich avant garde tradition represented by Hermeto Pascal and Victor Asis Brasil. Over the last 8 years, I have been amassing a significant collection of Brazilian music and instruments which I use occasionally on live performances and in the studio.

All this, and the combined influences and talents of the group members make Exit 10 one of the most unique and exciting groups around.

Old Man Brown is based in the Baltimore area, playing original Rock, Blues, Soul and Funk that honors earlier traditions with respectful arrangements and the highest standards of musicianship. OMB's repertoire includes an enticing collection of original songs written by keyboardist and singer Adam Scott-Wakefield and his late brother, drummer John Scott-Wakefield.

OMB’s music is inspired by blues and rock legends such as Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Bobby Bland, The Allman Brothers and Little Feat. Surprisingly, the OMB musicians all grew up in rural New Hampshire, far from the blues traditions of the Southeast and the Midwest. The Scott-Wakefield brothers studied music, John at USC in 1996-97 and Adam at New York’s New School in 2000, and played in a series of jazz and rock bands separately and together, from Los Angeles to New York City to Atlanta. But they craved the freedom of their own band and in 2001 reunited with long-time friends and fellow musicians Marshall Chapman (guitar), Paul Lewis (bass) and Alex Rankin (guitar).

Bassist/Composer/Lyricist/Vocalist...here's my story..........: I was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in L.A. I returned to DC after graduating from high school in '79. My first instrument was Drums, Section Leader in High School. After being 2nd chair freshman year (my older bro was section leader then), I started playing electric Bass (against my will :-)) when my brother's band needed someone to play it. I am totally self taught on Bass. The first song I learned was "That's the Way I Like It" by KC and the Sunshine Band.

I took a brief hiatus from 80-83, to study divinity/theology. These studies led me back to a full and total commitment to the obvious gift that I have in music. I vowed to NEVER quit again. To fulfill my life's mission though music, I have been Playing Music full time since 1995. My first gig with a recording Artist was with VINX after meeting him at a radio interview he did on NPR. He invited me to perform with him at the Prince Georges Playhouse with Danny Sadownick and himself. I played Double Bass on that show.

After retiring from the postal service in 1995, I landed a full time gig on the Spirit of Washington Cruises for one year and left in 1996 to tour with (then Blind Pig recording artist) Deborah Coleman and the Thrill Seekers. I toured with Deborah for 3 years. We played extensively in Europe (France, Italy, Belgium, Norway, England), the Caribbean (St.Croix, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas), the U.S. and Canada on many major stages including the Chicago Blues Fest, Montreal Jazz Fest Spectrum Hall, and more clubs and Juke than I can recall. While playing with Deborah I had the privilege of performing with the legendary Bo Diddley. We also did live performances on NPRs show "Anthem", the "Beale Street Caravan", Live from BB Kings (in Memphis)as well as "Mountain Stage" w/ Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and live TV in Dallas TX, "Good Day Dallas", and the W.C. Handy Fest Filmed by KET TV. I then joined the James Solberg Band (from the Luther Allison Band) -2000- and toured with him for nine months in the US. While working with James we often were the back up band for the late great Son Seals and once even for A.C. Reed!! We also performed for the radio broadcast "Beale Street Caravan and The W.C. Handy Fest, which was taped for KET TV. In 2002 I met the founding brothers of "Nocturnal Rage"the Seattle Hip-Hop entrepreneurs. I have so far recorded two CDs and one Video with them, "Nocturnal Rage" and "Way Out Your Mind". We were the house band along with Hip-Hop Legend Daddy-O on turntables and Spaceman Patterson on guitar for Comedy Centrals "Premium Blend" (Season Seven hosted by D.L. Hughley). We also toured the US the summer of 2005 w/Orig Hip-Hop Drummer/Producer Bobby Simmons (i.e. Stetsasonic........etc,etc,etc. ya dig). Also in 2005 I recorded a CD with my good friend "Tyrone Shuz and His Funky Bluz" called "Funkin' A!"

In 2006 I finally finished MY DEBUT recording for my record label "PotpourriMusicWorks". It is the soundtrack for the play "Don't Sing No Blues For Me" written by my good friend Glenn Alan Brown. Its currently available from cdbaby.com and itunes as well as other digital e-music services in the US. I also currently perform as bassist for Ms. Marva Wright "the Blues Queen of New Orleans." (displaced by Katrina), and Marc Greene (formerly of the Moments). From the White House to “Real Housewives,” transparency has become the promise of the digital age; everyone is broadcasting everything all of the time. So what happens when a rock band throws open the studio doors, stops being polite and starts getting real?

Des Moines rockers The Nadas found out when they set out last January to record their seventh LP, Almanac, virtually live. The rules were simple: the band would write, record and release one song a month all year. What’s more, every step of the process would be streamed live on the band’s website and with unprecedented access to the creative process; fans were allowed to become an integral part of this album. By joining the band’s web-based Almanac Project, fans could monitor their blog and read the band’s project journal. Comments and criticisms on everything from lyrics to instruments were welcomed and even, in a few choice cases, incorporated into The Nadas’ music. In September of 2009, select fans that had joined the Almanac Project were extended an exclusive invitation to a special songwriting session arranged to write that month’s addition to this most unique album.

By 2009, with hundreds of thousands of copies of their previous six albums sold, and having toured along thousands of miles of highway (in Meatloaf’s old tour bus, no less), one would think Playboy Magazine’s “Best College Band You’ve Never Heard Of” would have little to worry about. However, singer/guitarist Mike Butterworth regretted the whole song-a-month idea almost immediately, “By February, I’d decided it was a terrible mistake,” he says. ”I didn’t like being forced to be creative on a schedule, and it wrecked havoc on the creative process. Knowing that people were watching me fumble through musical and lyrical ideas was really difficult. I was self conscious the whole time.”

Co-founding singer/guitarist Jason Walsmith was equally dubious, “The truth is, the process of writing and recording is kind of ugly. I felt dumb singing things for the first time, sounding like junior high choir boy.”

Butterworth and Walsmith are known for their flawless songwriting, but opening the normally intimate process for public scrutiny proved to be a trying time. By the end, though, the finished product is truly their best to date. Despite (or perhaps because) of the rigorous, self-imposed deadlines and wildly public creative process, the 12 tracks produced on Almanac, finds The Nadas in top form.

Their previous efforts The Ghosts Inside These Halls (2007) and Listen Through The Static (2005) have found the band (rounded out by bassist Jon Locker, drummer Jason Smith, and violinist Becca Smith) alternating between alt-rock and alt-country. Now, Almanac finds the band fully embracing muscular, anthemic rock. ”Bitter Love,” “Dodged a Bullet” and “Last to Know” stand confidently alongside the band’s most amplified efforts.

The surprise is in the band’s strong-but-subtle instrumental choices: staccato strings in “Long Goodbye,” tin whistle in “Crystal Clear,” steel drums “All I Want Is You.” Where a crisp keyboard sound in “Parachute” borrows from Van Halen’s “1984,” the hint of auto tune in “Long Goodbye” appropriates a dash of Kanye West.

Less surprisingly, though, is the affect of the band’s very-public recording process on the lyrics. Tracks like “Call Me” and “Crystal Clear” find both frontmen at their most exposed.

“I’m not gonna’ let it break down,” Butterworth (whose marital woes read like an open wound in “Ghosts”) sings in “Crystal Clear.” “I’m not gonna’ let it fall apart the way it did again.”

In the end, even he admits that Almanac somehow captures all twelve months. “It was an average year: I lived in the same house, had the same wife, toured in the same bus, and took the same vacation. But I don’t think Almanac is an average record. We stepped way out of our comfort zone in terms of writing and producing. Somehow, it’s our most cohesive record yet.”

“It was a risk,” Walsmith said. “But our die-hard fans were game. They came along for the ride. And, just because a little bit of the magic was taken away doesn’t mean they didn’t relish the process.”

Like so many American bands, The Nadas started as a way for its members to pass the time between college classes. Unlike so many American bands, The Nadas outlasted their educations and rode a growing fan base to a genuine, honest-to-goodness career.

While Butterworth is known for his rock ‘n’ roll intuitions (on perfect display in his live cover of the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”) and Walsmith for his alt-country roots, they work perfectly as a songwriting unit, skillfully evoking the romance, introspection and uncertainty of living life on one’s own terms in the 21st Century.

Those terms are what brought on the thoughts of intertwining their fans and the rise of social networking into the process of the album. Over the past sixteen years, The Nadas have built a strong community of fans and together they have sold more than 125,000 albums through their own Authentic Records, including 2003’s Transceiver and 2005’s Listen Through The Static, both produced by Todd and Toby Pipes of Deep Blue Something, as well as 2007’s The Ghosts Inside These Halls. Now, with Almanac, their seventh LP, they are confident they will continue to grow their community, bringing in new fans and new beginnings.

“We started The Nadas sixteen years ago with just a couple of songs, a van and a newsletter, then grew a community from there,” said Walsmith. “The tools we have now to communicate with and build that community are crazy. But it’s still about the songs, and our fans. They’re why we do this.”

Bassist/Composer/Lyricist/Vocalist...here's my story..........: I was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in L.A. I returned to DC after graduating from high school in '79. My first instrument was Drums, Section Leader in High School. After being 2nd chair freshman year (my older bro was section leader then), I started playing electric Bass (against my will :-)) when my brother's band needed someone to play it. I am totally self taught on Bass. The first song I learned was "That's the Way I Like It" by KC and the Sunshine Band.

I took a brief hiatus from 80-83, to study divinity/theology. These studies led me back to a full and total commitment to the obvious gift that I have in music. I vowed to NEVER quit again. To fulfill my life's mission though music, I have been Playing Music full time since 1995. My first gig with a recording Artist was with VINX after meeting him at a radio interview he did on NPR. He invited me to perform with him at the Prince Georges Playhouse with Danny Sadownick and himself. I played Double Bass on that show.

After retiring from the postal service in 1995, I landed a full time gig on the Spirit of Washington Cruises for one year and left in 1996 to tour with (then Blind Pig recording artist) Deborah Coleman and the Thrill Seekers. I toured with Deborah for 3 years. We played extensively in Europe (France, Italy, Belgium, Norway, England), the Caribbean (St.Croix, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas), the U.S. and Canada on many major stages including the Chicago Blues Fest, Montreal Jazz Fest Spectrum Hall, and more clubs and Juke than I can recall. While playing with Deborah I had the privilege of performing with the legendary Bo Diddley. We also did live performances on NPRs show "Anthem", the "Beale Street Caravan", Live from BB Kings (in Memphis)as well as "Mountain Stage" w/ Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and live TV in Dallas TX, "Good Day Dallas", and the W.C. Handy Fest Filmed by KET TV. I then joined the James Solberg Band (from the Luther Allison Band) -2000- and toured with him for nine months in the US. While working with James we often were the back up band for the late great Son Seals and once even for A.C. Reed!! We also performed for the radio broadcast "Beale Street Caravan and The W.C. Handy Fest, which was taped for KET TV. In 2002 I met the founding brothers of "Nocturnal Rage"the Seattle Hip-Hop entrepreneurs. I have so far recorded two CDs and one Video with them, "Nocturnal Rage" and "Way Out Your Mind". We were the house band along with Hip-Hop Legend Daddy-O on turntables and Spaceman Patterson on guitar for Comedy Centrals "Premium Blend" (Season Seven hosted by D.L. Hughley). We also toured the US the summer of 2005 w/Orig Hip-Hop Drummer/Producer Bobby Simmons (i.e. Stetsasonic........etc,etc,etc. ya dig). Also in 2005 I recorded a CD with my good friend "Tyrone Shuz and His Funky Bluz" called "Funkin' A!"

In 2006 I finally finished MY DEBUT recording for my record label "PotpourriMusicWorks". It is the soundtrack for the play "Don't Sing No Blues For Me" written by my good friend Glenn Alan Brown. Its currently available from cdbaby.com and itunes as well as other digital e-music services in the US. I also currently perform as bassist for Ms. Marva Wright "the Blues Queen of New Orleans." (displaced by Katrina), and Marc Greene (formerly of the Moments). Victor Wainwright, the twenty something singer, pianist, “hepcat” from Memphis by way of the Savannah, Georgia; creates powerhouse blues and roots rock by playing his own unique style of boogie piana’. Stephen Dees is a rock n' roll aficionado, touring and-or recording as bassist and vocalist for Hall and Oates, Todd Rundgren, Pat Travers, and Foghat to name a few. He was a Billboard and MTV char-tee with his band Novo Combo, and has received great acclaim for his original pop band "Bandees." Currently, Dees is the producer, writer, bassist and backup vocalist for the WildRoots.

The boogie blues "piana" player and savvy pop-rocker met up six years ago in Ormond Beach FL, where they were both on the bill of a benefit concert. Very impressed after hearing each other perform and finding that they had a common love for early rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll music that came out of the '50s and 60's, such as B.B. King, Ray Charles, James Brown, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard; they discussed the possibility of collaborating on an original recording project; paying homage to their rock 'n' rhythm roots. Dees agreed to produce and co-write what would become Wainwright's 2005 release, "Piana from Savannah". "...it's hard to follow the speed limit while this one's playing... Pine Top Perkins would be proud." [Backstage Pass Magazine]

For the project, blues-rock guitarist Greg Gumpel, a friend and band mate of Victor's since 2002, was a perfect fit for the band. Now also a Memphis resident, Gumpel has become renowned for his wild phrasing and fluid fusion of electric blues and genuine rock 'n roll guitar. Greg says, "When I play blues, I like to think a little outside the box, get a little wild, while still trying to pay tribute to the founding fathers of blues guitar."

Drummer Brian Kelly, an accomplished jazz / new age composer, roots rhythm powerhouse and the backbone of band. Having worked with Dees in the recent past, the two had met playing in a progressive rock band and from the very first note; knew there was an instant rhythm connection. "Brian is refined, intricate and explosive all at the same time.”

After the release of the “Piana’ from Savannah” CD and some outstanding live performances they knew they had something special and decided to forge a more enduring working relationship. Victor Wainwright and the WildRoots were born.

Their debut CD, "Beale Street to the Bayou," is set to release in September 2009. The music is a departure from the more traditional blues and boogie of Wainwright's "Piana" CD. This project lyrically and musically speaks to a broader contemporary audience, while its soul remains anchored in the roots music that continues to inspire.

Let's face it: Most blues music reeks of honky revival. You know the stuff. Amiable white guys who memorize the collected licks of Robert Johnson or more likely Stevie Ray Vaughn or even more likely George Thorogood wreak havoc on the same three chords over and over. Pretty soon the refried hockey blues of Canned Heat is sounding pretty good.

Not so with this outfit. A roster of NYC-NJ blues veterans who have the chops to back up their considerable record collections, BBQ Bob & the Spareribs play it as hard and mean as those excellent Excello sides recently anthologized (and worth your time) by Hip-O / Universal. In fact, on their second CD, Pass the Biscuits, they cover Lonesome Sundown's (Cornelius Green) "My Home is a Prison" (written by J.D. Miller, who also wrote Kitty Wells' "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels"), which appeared on The Excello Story Volume Two. Here, singer Bob Pomeroy's harp traces guitarist Ira Spinrad's lead lines in glorious stereo. Those two do a lot of chasing each other. In place of a twin guitar attack, Spinrad and Pomeroy trade licks between distorted harp and guitar. True telepathy at times.

There's plenty to chew on here. "A Bullet for You" is a muted rumble that recalls the high-wire tension of the Rolling Stones' "Midnight Rambler". "One Step Closer" has the R&B sweetness of Arthur Alexander. Legendary Chicago harpist Little Walter gets a nod of the hat with a cover of "My Baby's Sweeter." "High Cotton" is that merge of raw bottomed blues and country music that some people think the Band accomplished with their first few records. That only shows how laid back hippies can be.

This ain't a nostalgia show. There are eleven originals here that in a blindfold test you wouldn't be able to correctly date. Coulda been written fifty years ago, coulda been yesterday. The rhythm section is a mother and you can hear it steamroll through "Too Bored to Live, Too Dumb to Die," "Hot Biscuit" or "Gorillacillin" if you feel the need to impulsively shake your ass.

In 2005 the SBBB was invited to play the King Biscuit Blues Festival under the Emerging Artist Stage and was a semi-finalist in the 22nd Annual International Blues Challenge. Also in 2005 Mark Tomlinson received an Honorable Mention for his track from the Working Girl Blues CD, "Bad Dream" in the 14th Annual Billboard Songwriting Contest.

In 2006 the band recorded and toured in Europe, and released their sophomore effort, "Livin' Day to Day" which received local, national and international air play on mainstream and blues radio and was featured on cable television's Rockin' Cookin' Kitchen show as well as being named one of the top 50 blues CD's released worldwide by Delta Art and one of top 10 Blues CD's by WTMD FM. The band played 240 shows in 2006 including The Netherlands, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, New York, Delaware, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia and secured the #1 Top Booked Band slot on Sonicbids.

2007 saw the band keeping up their busy schedule (between 2006 and 2007 playing a total of 465 shows!) and expanding their tour radius to include the Mid West and New England. The band opened up for Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials as well as Tab Benoit in 2007 and in the late summer shot a live DVD with the Digital Cafe Tour in NYC at the Baggott Inn with Sean Carney. In the fall the band went back into the studio to begin work on another all original effort producing 15 tracks.

In 2008 the Skyla Burrell Band signed with Blues Boys & Divas Talent and toured extensively in the South and South-East as well as up and down the East Coast. In July the band released their third CD of all original blues "Tough Luck" This time around the band worked with Todd Glazer promotions and cuts off of "Tough Luck" received airplay on over 150 blues stations in the US and abroad.

In 2009 the band kept up their busy touring schedule covering the Mid-West, South-East and North-East regions of the US all the while writing tunes for a new studio CD set for an early 2010 release. The band also sold a track from "Tough Luck" to the producers of the new CBS drama "The Bridge, set to air in the fall line-up and in September Skyla traveled to Toronto to record vocals for 4 cover tunes to also be included in the show. The band also filmed a commercial for the Lazy Dog Cafe and a segment for the "The Straight Ahead Guitar Show." Opening for Marcia Ball was one of the high points for the band in 2009.

Skyla Burrell was born in Los Angeles and raised in Orange County, California. Skyla formed her first band at the age of 13 and has been a working musician ever since. Skyla played with several bands as a teenager, working her way up and down Southern California. At 18 she recorded her first original demo with some help from Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - she also later recorded backing vocals for Mike Campbell's first solo album) and Jerry Swallow (Tanya Tucker). Later that demo was re-mixed by legendary producer Dennis Sands (Whitney Houston). Skyla also had a brief stint on NBC's hit sitcom Wings and appeared in a Movie of the Week with Charles Bronson before relocating to the East Coast where she continued learning and growing from her musical experiences and eventually co-forming the Skyla Burrell Band. In addition to her singing, writing and guitar duties, Skyla also plays piano and bass.

Bobby Parker - True Blues Legend

1950's
During the 50's Bobby started out by working with the doo-wop group Otis Williams and the Charms. He played lead guitar with Bo Diddley, toured with Paul Williams, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Laverne Baker, Clyde McPhatter, and the Everly Brothers. He also toured with Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Little Richard in late '50s. In 1958 while working with Paul "Hucklebuck" Williams and playing at the Apollo in Harlem, he wrote and recorded "Blues Get Off My Shoulder" (recorded on Vee-Jay label).

1960's
In 1961, Bobby relocated to Washington DC and began appearing at all the major clubs in DC. He recorded "Watch Your tep" (V-Tone label) in 1961 which became a regional hit and was later covered by Spencer Davis Group, Dr. Feelgood and Santana. "Watch Your Step" became a hit on British and US R & B charts. In 1968, he toured England and recorded "It's Hard to be Fair" for the Blue Horizon label.

1970'S-80's
The 70s and 80s found Bobby performing heavily in the Washington DC area and he became a key figure in the city's blues scene.

1990's
In 1993, Bobby Parker headlined the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Festival. He recorded his first album, "Bent Out of Shape" for the Black Top label. In 1995 it was joined by his second album "Shine Me Up" also on the Black Top label (distributed by Rounder). Bobby continues to play weekly in DC clubs and has developed a following of both old and new blues fans. His powerful guitar licks and superb songwriting make him one of the most exciting artists around today!

2000+
Bobby's show continues to rock the new century. He performs frequently in the Washington DC area and on tours around the world. His new tunes, soon to be released are dynamite!

Michael “Todd” Miller was born January 5, 1974 and has lived in the Northern Virginia area ever since. He started playing drums and guitar at age 13. At age 18, Todd started playing professionally in clubs and bars in the DC Metropolitan area, in some cases using fake identification when necessary. Though being a drummer, Todd has always been a lyricist/songwriter for each of his projects: (Flood Thought, Bunsen Honeydew, and Lamont). Todd has also played and/or recorded with other projects such as: (Lucky Dog, Mike Holden, Steve Hagadorn, Claire Gilbride, The Pharmacy Profits, and April Park Theory). Brother Shamus is the first project that he has been the guitarist/front man for - now playing and singing the songs he has written. “It’s much more natural to sing and play songs you’ve written yourself as opposed to trying to write for someone else and/or trying to ‘feel’ what someone else has written for you. Brother Shamus allows me, for the first time, to completely be myself style-wise, the way I am. So that’s it. All you’re going to get. Hope you enjoy.” His influences include Tom Waits, Otis Redding, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Thelonius Monk, Tom Petty, and Medeski, Martin, and Wood.

James Main (percussion, vocals)
In 1995, James Main relocated to Arlington, VA from New England to join the band Bunsen Honeydew; this is when he and Todd Miller began playing music together. After a year (Bunsen Honeydew had ended), Main helped form another indie/punk bank Luka Brazzi. In 1999, Main left Luka Brazzi and joined Miller full-time in the acid/funk band Lamont, which was together for 7 years. Lamont released their record “Rooster Rickshaw” in 2000, around the same time Main joined Miller and bassist Rich de los Reyes in the funky party band Lucky Dog. In early 2001, Lucky Dog became the house band at Madam’s Organ, a popular DC music venue. In early 2004, with Lucky Dog on an extended hiatus and Lamont disbanded, Main and Miller began rehearsing several songs written by Miller. Rich De los Reyes and Eddie Hartness joined the duo 3 months later and Brother Shamus was formed. Along with playing in Brother Shamus, Main continues to play in Lucky Dog and the occasional Lamont reunion.

Richard Delos Reyes (bass, vocals)
Richard Delos Reyes (a.k.a. Ritchie) a born native of Arlington, VA (yes folks, there are some of us out there) has been playing music pretty much all his life. When asked of his mother the first time she knew that she’d have a musician on her hands she said at the age of 3 Ritchie took an affectionate relationship with the family piano. “Smackin’ the crap outta those keys entertained him to no end.” When asked of his influences Ritchie just smiles and says “There’s a lot”. If I were to list them all to this day I’d have to build my own web-page but off hand let’s see…. Mom and Dad, my big brother, and last but not least my older sister who also happens to be my arts and crafts guru as well. His childhood friends were indispensable as influences; “Sully” was always there to jam and figure out songs, Matt and Alex helped me realize that music can be explained to other musicians other than going…duh duh duh duh duh and then we go dant dant dant! Eddie has always made me realize that dreams do come true but it’s called “Show Business and not Show Fun for a reason”. The rest of my influences are on this web-site. As for musical influences, let’s just say that he’d wish that people would listen to his bass playing and figure out what he listens to; “I don’t like listing a bunch of bands or musicians that I don’t know personally….they are all great in their own respect and that’s why I listen to them”. He still loves mowing his lawn and the occasional Snickers Bar…“mmmmmmmmmm das’ some good eatin’. Peace.

Hunter Sapp (drums, percussion, vocals)
Originally from Asheville, NC the 25 year old drummer has been playing for 10+ years and has been a professionally gigging musician for over 6 years. Growing up in Asheville, NC, a very artistic community, Hunter recalls, “I had great musician role models, and when I was growing up my drum teachers told me the key to being a great drummer is don’t strive to be just a drummer, strive to be a musician.” In Asheville, Hunter played in: The Drive Home, The Jor Sutton Trio, Otherwise, The Morsels and The Royal We. He also contributed on tracks in the Vietnam documentary, In Our Fathers Eyes with The Royal We and Dave Hamilton of The Great Slide. Soon after, Hunter set his sights on Los Angeles to pursue a formal education in percussion. In 2004 he attended The Los Angeles Music Academy’s Drum Program. After graduating, Hunter moved to the DC Metro area to pursue his music career. Some of his noteworthy teachers include; Jeff Sipe of Jazz is Dead, Byron Hedgepath of The Asheville Symphony, Jor Sutton, Ralph Humphrey of Frank Zappa fame, Mike Shapiro who among many has also played with Sergio Mendes, and Gilberto Campello, of House of Musical Tradition. Now teaching Drum set several days a week and most recently assumed the throne for Brother Shamus. “Playing with Brother Shamus is a real honor everyone in this band is a great musician, which is fantastic because it makes my job easier.” Hunter’s musical influences range from Jazz, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Post Rock, New Orleans Second Line and Hip Hop.

Michael Provenzano (keyboard)
Born in March of 1963 Mike is the oldest member of Brother Shamus. Being a lifelong native of the Northern Virginia area Mike has been involved with music since the tender age of 11 when he first discovered his love for the sound of a church organ. He started learning piano in his spare time on the family Steinway. Throughout high school he played in lots of basement bands with friends from school. In college he continued playing in pick up groups until he met members of a very popular local college band called Offbeat Uninhibited Fun. He played with OUF for 3 years until graduating from Radford University in 1985. In 1986, he moved back to the DC area and left music for a while until around 1990 when former members of OUF gave him a call to join another newly formed group called Dirty Campaign. The mighty campaign had Mike Clem of Eddie From Ohio fame as the bass player who was replaced by Rich DelosReyes when EFO began to take off in the early 90's. Mike and Rich bonded. The Campaign played many gigs in the area and even did a showcase in LA as well as gigs in Ocean City and Dewey Beach. As luck would have it, the Campaign went through several formations before disbanding. Out of the ashes of D. C. another band was formed with Mike on keys and Rich on bass. This one was called Electric Larry. Again many local gigs were played in and out of the area and, as with Dirty Campaign, albums were recorded and released. Once again Lady Luck stepped in and Mike took another couple year break from music to record albums for various local artists in his extensive home studio. “ I like to keep in touch with my former band mates. In doing so I came across a new band Rich was playing in called Brother Shamus. I was taken by the singer/songwriter Todd Miller. Man, the dude writes some incredible stuff!” After seeing Brother Shamus many times, Mike stepped in to help out with running sound and eventually came to be relied upon as sound guy. Wouldn't you know it, Lady Luck reared her head again and Mike was asked to join up on his legendary keyboard playing reputation. “ I must say its an honor playing with these guys. We have a lot of fun playing Todd's music. Its just awesome.”

Matthew Rinker (guitar)
Matthew K. Rinker was born in Washington, D.C. in 1966. He has lived most of his life in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. He currently lives in Arlington County, Virginia where he teaches instrumental music at Gunston Middle School. In 2005 Rinker earned his Master’s Degree in Music Composition from George Mason University where he was awarded an Academic Achievement Award and again recognized by Pi Kappa Lambda. He studied composition with Dr. Glenn Smith. Throughout the 1990s Rinker performed as a guitarist with two well-known local bands (Graffitti, a rock quartet and Stickman, a jazz quintet). His skills as a performer took him to such well-known venues as: the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Blues Alley, the Pittsburgh Jazz Festival, and Constitution Hall. Rinker’s guitar playing can be heard on the 1995 release of Stickman’s self-titled debut CD and on the 1998 Graffitti CD entitled Brick.
