Thursdays Nonprofits Profit featuring GW School of Medicine's Chapter of Med Students For Choice http://www.medicalstudentsforchoice.org/ The mission of Medical Students For Choice is to create pro-choice physicians and tomorrow's abortion care providers. The George Washington University chapter of MS4C aims to educate GW medical students about family planning and reproductive rights as well as encourage future physicians to explore providing abortion services as part of their practice. The number of providers in the country is steadily decreasing as the rise of violence against providers increases as well as the fact that many medical schools do not teach abortion as part of their curriculum. Our chapter at GW has helped to change curriculum and worked to encourage more medical students to learn more about family planning by attending national conferences about reproductive health. One of the most powerful conferences for a medical student to attend is the national conference that brings in countless resources for potential pro-choice physicians. However, the conference is in Salt Lake City, Utah and because most of our students are on loans, people are having trouble in paying for the costs to attend the conference. We are currently fundraising to pay for hotels and conference fees for ten future abortion care providers who otherwise could not attend the meeting. |
