Thursdays Nonprofits Profit featuring The Martin Pollak Project/Project Northstar http://www.mppi.org/programs/northstar The Martin Pollak Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit child welfare ! organization with operations in Washington, D.C and Baltimore, MD. Founded in 1980, we have grown from a tiny community-based program working with a handful of kids into a mature program providing community-based treatment foster care and independent living services to over 175 children in the Washington and Baltimore metro areas. In September, 2009, The Martin Pollak Project relaunched the tutoring and mentoring program, Project Northstar. The mission of Project Northstar is to help children who are homeless or disadvantaged overcome barriers to a quality education. Partnering with parents, educators, donors and diverse volunteers, we provide one-on-one tutoring, mentoring and enrichment activities to students in grades 1-12 to help pave the way to success in school and life. We strive to be a beacon -- a north star -- by which children can find their way to a better, brighter future. |
